Shoes-No open toed shoes or sandals may be worn. Students should have proper footwear to be able to run around on various surfaces.
Clothing-Proper clothing allowing students to move freely should be worn everyday. Students should wear comfortable clothing that facilitates participation in various activities and that they are not afraid to get dirty or sweaty in. Students wearing dresses or skirts should have shorts underneath to allow for full participation. Sweatshirts are recommended during cold weather.
Water and Sunscreen-Students are encouraged to bring water to drink, as needed. Water bottles are permitted during class, however, each student is responsible for ensuring that their water bottles remain out of the way during class and picked up everyday at the end of class. Water breaks at the fountains will be allowed by the teacher at designated times. Sunscreen should be applied at home or in the classroom before PE. For the safety of all students, application of sunscreen will not be permitted during class. Participation-Students are expected to participate everyday. Regular participation along with the ability to cooperate with other students on a daily basis is essential for success in physical education. Failure to participate on a regular basis will result in a loss of points.
Medical excuses- Parents may write a note to excuse their child from class for 3 days. When writing a note to excuse a child from physical education, parents should include their child's classroom teacher and grade level and why they need to sit out. A doctor's note is required for a student to miss more than 4 days without losing points.
Class Expectations Students are expected to:
walk to P.E. in an orderly fashion and stand quietly in their assigned line
participate in the warm up activities everyday
follow the instructions everyday and pay attention to the skills being taught to them
behave in a safe manner, keeping hands and feet to themselves always
play by the rules
demonstrate good sportsmanship
Students grades will be based off of participation in class as well as behavior.
Students will receive a "warning" each time they are not participating and if it continues, they will lose 1 point
If a student is not following the PE rules they will also get a warning. If they receive 2 warnings they will lose a point. If they get 3 warning they will lose Friday game day and be required to fill out a behavior chart during that time.
If students do not wear the correct shoes they will lose 1 point
Points will be added up at the end of each trimester.
Grading Scale is as follows:
A = 0-1 points lost A- = 2-5 points lost B+ = 6-9 points lost B =10-12 points lost B- =13-15 points lost C+ = 16-19 points lost C = 20-23 points lost C- = 24-27 points lost
Students will also be assessed throughout the year on the skills they are learning. In order to make sure students are meeting the standards, various skill assessments will take place (teacher assessments, self-assessments, peer assessments, formal and informal assessments). Effort, participation and behavior are the biggest part of the PE grade.
